President of Cáritas Coimbra in Rome to receive award

In the past June 15th to 17th, the President of Cáritas Coimbra, Prof. Dr. Manuel Antunes, participated, in Rome, in the Ministerial Conference on Ageing of the UNECE – United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. At this meeting, the Action Plan for Ageing of the UNECE Region was discussed and approved.

Prior to this, there was a Joint Forum of Civil Society and Scientific Research, which approved the Declaration on Healthy Ageing in a Society for All Ages. In this last meeting, Cáritas Coimbra was distinguished with the selection of its video “Active aging and well-being”. This award comes within the scope of the international video competition “Active ageing with joy”, promoted by the Joint Forum, in which dozens of entities from different countries competed, but only 10 were distinguished.

During the month of March the Joint Forum of Civil Society and Scientific Research launched a video contest to give voice to older people and entities that involve them. The Department of Innovation of Caritas Coimbra competed with the video “Active aging and well-being”, where it presented some of the main international projects managed by the institution.

The projects shown in this video are related to the theme of active and healthy ageing, aimed at improving the well-being of older people. They aim to develop technological solutions that respond to the needs and desires of older users. Overall, the main objective is to bring improvements to the services offered by Cáritas Coimbra, as well as to increase support for the caregiver.

Throughout the video, the following were shown: the DAPAS solution (software and hardware consisting of the EMMA box, Alexa and smart lamp), the buttons and tablet from the KlikKit project and the SmartWork devices to improve the quality of life at work for citizens over 55 years. These projects are funded by the FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology, under the AAL Programme, and the European Horizon 2020 Programme.

In addition to having their winning videos screened at the Forum, the competition finalists also have the privilege of seeing their videos published on the AGE Platform Europe website, an entity with over 20 years responsible for promoting cooperation between older people’s organizations at EU level.
