Triplo D Awareness session at Casa de S. José with the help of the DAPAS system

On the 25th of January, the Triplo D team (Cáritas de Coimbra project) promoted an awareness session with the people living in the residential home – Casa S. José with the support of the DAPAS application, thus scaling up the implementation of AAL solutions.

The DAPAS application allows the project’s participants to keep in touch with family and friends using a video call or a text message, among other services. This is especially helpful during the current state of COVID-19 pandemic, a period of confinement and social isolation.

Triplo D took advantage of the application’s communication and interaction features and ran a hybrid face-to-face and virtual session. This helped to liven up the session all the while complying with Directorate-General for Health’s (DGS) safety measures. This is the first of two sessions that aim to reflect on human rights and civic and democratic participation from the older adults’ perspective, as citizens with rights and responsibilities.

Triplo D is financed by the Active Citizens Fund (2018-2024) within the scope of European Economic Area Financial Mechanism – EEA Grants, which is managed in Portugal by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian) in consortium with Bissaya Barreto Foundation (Fundação Bissaya Barreto).

DAPAS is co-financed by the European Programme AAL (Active Assisted Living – ICT for Aging, 2017) and by Foundation for Science and Technology (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia).

This way, Cáritas Diocesana de Coimbra managed to bring together two projects with different objectives. By doing so, it was possible to raise the older citizens’ awareness of their rights and responsibilities using the DAPAS technology. This goes to show that it is possible to keep some activities that struck up interesting conversations and bring people together in a different way.
