Pharaon: 2023 Throwback Ethics

Pharaon is a lively project, and we are delighted to share some of the initiatives held within the scope of the ethics task.

This year CDC conducted two ethical workshops with project partners, one in Malaga, Spain and one in San Giovani Rotondo, Italy. These workshops aimed to implement ethical dialogue in practice. This dialogue seeks to share challenges faced by the partners involved in the project on a specific topic and collectively find ethical recommendations. Workforce challenges with the digital revolution and Exit Strategy were discussed in these workshops.

We also had the chance to reunite the Ethics Board in early September. In this meeting, we reminded all present of the Ethics Pathway and the implementation of Pharaon’s Ethics Excellence, which involves reflection, dialogue, and understanding. After this, we conducted two moments of reflection and dialogue. The first moment involved a collective exercise to comprehend the Ethical Issues each pilot faced during the pilot and the measures they adopted for resolution. In the second, we carried out an evaluation of the Informed Consent Package, describing and discussing its strengths and weaknesses. Finally, in preparation for the next steps, we presented some of the social and ethical outcomes and provided information on how to articulate participants’ best interests and safeguards throughout different phases of the project.

We finalized the year by welcoming the new members of the project in the kick-off meeting of the second open call. We presented the ethical methodology being implemented in Pharaon, focusing on the importance of ethical dialogue within the entire ecosystem, as well as introducing the tools designed for this purpose. Finally, we presented the legal demands for ethical conduct and the Informed Consent Procedures.

One of the project outcomes has already been released: HERE.

We closed 2023 with a feeling of mission accomplished! And we can’t wait for the next adventures.
