Citizen Science event in Coimbra, with the Citizeen app

On January 20th, we had a Citizen Science event as part of the Pharaon Project, using the Citizeen app. This initiative was led by Cáritas Coimbra, MARE UC, and OWL at Ribeira da Arregaça in Coimbra, with around 30 participants. Through the Citizeen app, volunteers got hands-on, learning about the stream, mapping biodiversity, and tackling issues in this green and blue area in Coimbra.

Want to be part of this green movement and contribute to the project? Fill out this quick form (PT): EUSurvey – Survey (europa.eu). After signing up, we’ll keep you posted on upcoming activities with Citizeen. The Innovation Department of Cáritas Coimbra will provide support and guidance for the use of the Citizeen app.

WHAT IS CITIZEEN?
Citizeen is a mobile application designed for smartphones, aiming to engage citizens in nature preservation in cities, promote physical and mental activity, and provide information for people to fully enjoy green and blue spaces nearby. Through Citizeen, anyone can share georeferenced photos of species and points of interest in the city, map locations using spatial technology based on thermal and vegetation indices, and provide suggestions for improving visited locations.
