Cáritas Coimbra integrates the Advisory Board of the European project “Homes4Life” – Certification for ageing in place
Cáritas Coimbra, represented by its Innovation Director – Carina Dantas, is participating as a member of the Advisory Board in the new European project “Homes4Life” – Certification for ageing in place and in the community, funded by the H2020.
Currently, a large proportion of buildings are not adapted to allow the older adults to age safely and comfortably. Even new buildings are not designed to support health and wellbeing over the life course. In fact, one in eight of European citizens aged over 65 declare that their house is not comfortably warm during winter.
Europe’s demographic ageing raises the challenge of ensuring that places are fit and adaptable to people’s needs and preferences and the Homes4Life certification project aims to meet this challenge.
The Homes4Life project began in December 2018 and will last 24 months with the goal of developing better living environments by integrating building and digital solutions where this is beneficial. This European certification is based on a long-term vision, taking into account the real needs and requirements of the people, and aims to be applied in new and existing buildings.
Homes4Life is managed by a multidisciplinary group of nine partners from five EU countries, under the coordination of TECNALIA (Spain).
