Cáritas Coimbra discussed Ageing and Daily Mobility in Round Table

On October 1st, Carina Dantas, Cáritas Coimbra’s Innovation Department Director, was a speaker at the Round Table on the theme “Ageing and Daily Mobility”, promoted by the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra (FLUC).

Carina Dantas, representing the institution, shared with the audience and the other speakers ideas and challenges around the theme, namely the importance of having more initiatives and a larger mobilization of civil society. In addition and as an essential focus, it was discussed the need for more investment and, essentially, more articulation at the level of public authorities and the various policies and territories for the implementation of better mobility solutions.

Cáritas Coimbra has been committed to an active intervention in this area, seeking to find answers to the social challenges resulting from population changes. An example of this action is the Portuguese Network on Smart, Healthy and Age-Friendly Environments, which is coordinated by this institution. This Network works to influence social policies and the creation of expanded and multidisciplinary partnerships in order to create environments adapted and inclusive, with better health, social support and citizenship.

The initiative emerged in 2018 after the challenge launched by Cáritas Coimbra and Nursing School of Coimbra (ESEnfC) to a range of Portuguese organizations, which committed to promoting a joint agenda for the implementation of policies and articulated solutions in the areas of Health, Social Support, ICT and Building Environments.

The event was promoted by the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra and GETOC, as part of the Grampcity project and International Day of Older Persons.
