PHILIP – Protection of Health by Increasing the Health Literacy of Pupils

The main goal of PHILIP – Protection of Health by Increasing the Health Literacy of Pupils is to contribute, in cooperation with the partner organizations, to increase the health literacy levels of pupils between the age of 11-15 and to empower teachers and educators through health literacy raising awareness/education activities and the creation of educational, interactive, and innovative materials in this area. It is a two-year project, and it has started in February 2022. The PHILIP project is funded by the Erasmus + Program, KA220-SCH – Cooperation partnerships in school education, by the European Commission, in a partnership between six European entities, namely: Cáritas Coimbra (Portugal), Academia Postal 3 Vigo S.L. (Spain), MPIRMPAKOS D. & SIA O.E. (Greece), Inovaciju tinklas (Lithuania), TUCEP – Tiber Umbria Comett Education Programme (Italy) and Ústav pro zdravotní gramotnost, z.ú. (Czech Republic), coordinator of the project.

The the main target group is pupils between the age of 11 – 15, including pupils from vulnerable groups such as Roma children, children from low-income families, children from single-parent families, children with special education needs, for example. The project intends to enhance the competencies of principals, teachers, other pedagogical and non-pedagogical staff of schools through newly created textbooks and educational materials containing innovative procedures and methods, and practical examples.

The transfer of good practices, recommendations, and innovative teaching methods, further through the implementation of educational and raising awareness activities will contribute to the increase of the consciousness of health protection as a human right. This will allow forming not just the pupils but also educators, to give life to interactive and innovative educational programs, enhancing the awareness towards health information. According to research, schools in Europe are in an apparent need of having a better Health Education Programme within their structures, PHILIP’s materials provided within the project implementation will give them a basis for improving their performance in that regard. Not only will they be able to use the Teachers Book and the educational modules in their institutions in an unchanged form, but also get inspired and adjust them to their own specific needs.
