Pharaon Pilot Project at S. José Community Centre
Since last September 29th, a group of people over 65 years old integrated the Pharaon project, whose Portuguese pilot is led by Cáritas Diocesana de Coimbra. Under the theme smart, healthy and friendly cities for all ages, the main project goal is to provide support for the active ageing of the European population, by developing integrated platforms that allow a personalised and optimised health and social care service.
Participants received tablets, which they will learn to use and explore in a perspective of using basic digital tools, which support them in their daily lives, but also of cognitive stimulation and improvement of general well-being.
The group has participated in weekly meetings at the S. José Community Centre that, more than promoting the use of tablets, have served as moments of socialization and sharing, strengthening neighbourhood relations and with the Community Centre itself, which they began to attend regularly.
In recent weeks some young people from the Youth Activity Centre (of the S. José Community Centre) have added their contribution to this activity, volunteering as “mentors” of the older ones in the use of technology, further enriching the value of these moments.
