Cáritas Coimbra’s DIANA Project participates in the Webinar of Introduction of the Guidelines for Compliance with Ethical Standards of the European program AAL

On February 12th, Cáritas Coimbra, represented by its Innovation Department, participated in the Webinar of Introduction of the Guidelines for Compliance with Ethical Standards, developed by the European funding program AAL. The invitation came in the context of one of the projects in which the entity is involved: DIANA.

DIANA project (financed by the European AAL program, and in Portugal, by the Foundation for Science and Technology, FCT) aims to support older users with dementia and their nurses and formal caregivers, placing at their disposal a sensor that detects possible risks of fall and that assists in other daily activities. The testing phase of the system will start soon, in the Long Term and Maintenance Units of Cáritas Coimbra. In addition to Portugal, the testing phase will take place in a geriatric clinic in Switzerland.

DIANA was chosen by the AAL program, among 4 other European projects, to participate in the implementation of these Guidelines. They are a model that focuses not only on legal contextualization, but also on the creation of an ethical dialogue between all stakeholders interested in the development of technology (older users, those responsible for the development of technology, policy makers, and other users).

The webinar and the results of this session (the implementation of the guidelines) will be essential to reflect the ethical values in the course of the DIANA project, as well as to strengthen the area of action of the other projects in which the institution is involved. Thus, the already proven competences of Cáritas Coimbra in the area of Ethics will come out, once again, strengthened.
