Portuguese large-scale pilot of the Pharaon project met last week to discuss the next steps

Pharaon – Pilots for Healthy and Active Ageing aims to develop integrated platforms that will provide personalized and optimized health and social care, maintaining the dignity of older people and increasing their independence, security, capacities and stimulating their interest in urban natural areas nearby, as well as active participation in preserving the environment. To this end, it proposes to integrate services, devices and digital tools into open platforms that can be easily implemented.

Under the theme “Smart Cities and the Ageing Challenges”, the Portuguese pilot is composed of 5 partners: Glintt Healthcare Solutions SA, University of Coimbra – MARE, University of Beira Interior, Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Amadora and Cáritas Diocesana de Coimbra (the last two being pilot coordinators). It aims to involve more than 1000 Portuguese citizens, focusing on older adults and their caregivers.

This project aims to develop integrated platforms that will be validated through a pre-validation phase and large-scale pilots (LSPs) located in six different territories: Murcia and Andalusia (Spain), Portugal (Amadora and Coimbra), the Netherlands, Slovenia and Italy. Each pilot will have a team of partners to ensure their correct development. The Portuguese pilot will test technologies focused on the citizen and address challenges related to integrated care and planning, integrated processes and infrastructures, knowledge sharing and the recognition and use of green and blue urban natural areas which are considered as fundamental for their physical and mental well-being.

The main elements of the team met online on February 4, 2021, to define the next actions of the project, considering COVID-19 mitigation measures during the implementation of the pre-validation and the Portuguese pilot.

Pharaon consortium is made up of 42 European entities and the total financing is 21.5 million Euros.

In the end, through the experience gained throughout the project, the working group hopes to be in a position to contribute significantly to the European Union’s agenda on Active and Healthy Ageing, ´a major challenge amongst the different countries of the European Union.
