Technological system to enhance the well-being and productivity of workers aged 55 and over presented at Cáritas Coimbra

As part of the international Smartwork project, an informative session took place September 24, which brought together employees from Cáritas Coimbra, from technical directors, the project’s researchers to office workers over 55 years old, the latter being the potential participants of a pre-pilot.

This meeting aimed to present the technological system. It offers participants -office workers aged 55 years old and older and that regularly use a computer – support at work. The system allows them to improve their well-being, functional and cognitive capacity, and supports them by displaying suggestions that they can use to streamline the work process.

On the other hand, this innovation will give employers a greater capacity to improve their teams’ efficiency and productivity, using solutions to support decision making and work management. Monitoring the general state of well-being of workers and receiving complementary support for informal care tasks was revealed as a concern for family members.

The European Smartwork project (funded by Horizon 2020), is developing an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system, centered on workers aged 55+, capable of contributing to the sustainability of their work capacity, which:

  • Fosters the active and continuous participation of older persons in professional life;
  • Supports the active and healthy ageing of older office workers;
  • Monitors the well-being, behaviour, emotional and cognitive status of workers;
  • Deals with the consequences of ageing and physical inactivity at work;
  • Generate benefits for workers aged 55+, their employers and caregivers.

The session provided a discussion on the topic among potential participants, technical directors and researchers who had the opportunity to express their opinions and fears,  as well as clearing up any doubts that might have arisen after the presentation of the system. The pilots will start this October, where primary tests on the system’s features will be carried out.
