(Des)Igual project covered over 13000 people
(Des)Igual project, by Caritas Coimbra, exceeded all expectations and covered 13060 people in total. When launched in March 2017, it was expected to benefit 4183 people, which would already be a positive result.
This project stood out for its transversal and diversified coverage. Workshops/sessions on gender equality awareness and prevention of domestic violence included various groups such as children and youth (from kindergarten to high school, and even community groups), parents and carers, older persons, technicians and institutions area and groups of socially vulnerable people (victims, prisoners, homeless people and users of social inclusion income).
During its implementation, 724 sessions were held (513 more than originally planned) in the districts of the Diocese of Coimbra – Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, Aveiro and Viseu. More than 96% of the beneficiaries surveyed acknowledged the importance of the project intervention. A project e-learning platform was also created.
(Des)Igual was a project co-financed by the Portugal 2020 Program (PO ISE) that proposes to foster the breaking of cycles of violence and promote the healthy and safe development of next generation relationships, through awareness raising actions. For this, it was based on four aspects: (1) education of children and young people and potentially vulnerable publics; (2) training and empowerment of women victims of violence; (3) widespread dissemination of gender equality through a cultural events program and e-learning platform; and, finally, (4) technical training of the intervention actors.
Cáritas Coimbra created and developed this project as a way to consolidate its work on gender equality and prevention of domestic violence, something that it intends to continue in the future.
