Best Practice Handbook – Preventing Falls in Older People

Best Practice Handbook – Preventing Falls in Older People was designed to help people understand some of the causes of falls, keeping people safe and independent in their own home and offering any likely solutions, through specific recommendations for preventing falls in the older people.

The Handbook is divided into four parts:

  • Identification of risk factors for falls
  • Preventing falls
  • Home monitoring checklist
  • Types of walking aids

The handbook is intended for the older people, their families, formal and informal caregivers and health professionals, with the purpose of informing, awareness-raising and training these segments of society, in order to promote safety and prevent falls at home. The strategy involves capacitation and promoting knowledge to deal with risks. The Best Practice Handbook includes a checklist to help prevent falls, which is also considered an innovative factor as it helps the older person to identify his main risk factors for falls in a simple and objective manner.

This work was carried out with the support of the GrowMeUp project, as the theme under analysis is a subject much valued by potential users of the robot, and deserves great attention from the project consortium.
