Discussion on Environmental Sustainability and Social Organisations
On 27th September 2024, Cáritas Coimbra took part in a discussion at Café Santa Cruz in Coimbra, as part of the Sustainability Days at University of Coimbra, focusing on Environmental Sustainability and Social Organisations: Dialogues of Knowledge and Practice.
During the event, Cáritas Coimbra presented its interventions and concerns regarding Environmental Sustainability. The implementation of the large-scale pilot Pharaon project was also discussed, focusing on the Citizeen application, which promotes Citizen Science and aims to improve the quality of life for citizens by returning green and blue areas to the community. Furthermore, the importance of making cities smarter through the use of technological tools was highlighted, with the Citizeen application serving as an example closely linked to Environmental Sustainability.
The topics addressed included the environmental responsibility of Social Organisations, emphasising their commitments and relationship with their social mission. Participants shared strategies to promote environmental sustainability practices, covering resources, policies, and recommendations.
Finally, the relevance of synergies between academia and social organisations in the field of environmental sustainability was discussed, with identified examples, opportunities, and challenges.
The discussion facilitated an exchange of ideas and practices, reinforcing Caritas Coimbra’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.
