BALANCE | Cáritas Coimbra participates in the launching of a new mental health project in Barcelona

Cáritas Coimbra is participating in the kick-off meeting of the European project BALANCE – Children advocating for mental and emotional well-being, in Barcelona. From 23 to 25 January, the consortium will have the opportunity to outline strategies and define the work plan for the project, which will be implemented until November 2026, in the field of mental health.

BALANCE is funded by the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (CERV), which is a 7-year European Union funding programme, launched in 2021. In addition to Cáritas Coimbra, the project’s partners are the Coimbra Region Intermunicipal Community , the Fundació Ajuda i Esperança (Spain) and the Fundació Catalana de l’Esplai (Spain), which is the project’s coordinator.

BALANCE aims to promote the mental health of young people between 13 and 18 years old. Through a diverse methodology, that includes training sessions, workshops, theatre and discussion groups, the project aims to raise awareness, foster confidence and facilitate peer learning on mental health. It is aimed at young people, families and educators/monitors in Catalonia and Coimbra. The main outcomes include the realisation of an Iberian Youth Mental Health Festival, advocacy recommendations for youth mental health support and an analysis of existing digital support services in this field.
