Innovation Department gets ethical training from an expert USA professor

On May 20th, Professor Sharvari Karandikar, from Ohio State University in the United States of America, conducted an ethics training session with the team from the Innovation Department of Cáritas Coimbra, entitled: Ethical approaches for field research with vulnerable groups.

The professor has extensive experience in the field of qualitative research with vulnerable groups and those in situations of economic and social fragility, as well as relevant international experience in the field of social work. With a humanized approach to the social sciences, she shared the methods and approaches that are indispensable for ethical, respectful and subject-centred research.

Cáritas Coimbra has been committed to these principles for many years and works for transformation through its several social responses. The Innovation Department, in particular, has the opportunity to dialogue with different stakeholder profiles to ensure an inclusive and ethical-legal debate in the field of innovation.

This meeting marked a rich exchange of experiences and the desire for future collaboration. Our public thanks go to the professor who kindly responded to our invitation.

The activity took place within the framework of the AAL4All and AGAPE ‘Active aGeing And Personalised service’s Ecosystem’ projects, in which Cáritas Coimbra is co-responsible for the ethical protocols for implementing the projects. Both are co-funded by the European AAL (Active Assisted Living) Programme and, in the Portuguese case, by the Foundation for Science and Technology (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia).
