Innovative project of Cáritas Coimbra delivers tablets to older people
The Innovation Department of Cáritas Coimbra is continuing the recruitment phase for the ValueCare project pilot. In this first stage, the team is delivering tablets to the participants (people over 65, with little social and family support and at risk of social isolation), in order to later install the digital solution ValueCare.
In the last weeks, the tablets were delivered in several Cáritas Coimbra equipments, namely: Rainha Santa Isabel Centre (Coimbra), São Pedro Social Centre (Coimbra), Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem Centre (Figueira da Foz), Santo António Nursing Home (Coimbra) and Sagrada Família Nursing Home (Góis). The participating users received tablets with games and answered the initial questionnaires to make their recruitment in the project effective.
The Innovation Department team went to these different locations, because one of the objectives of the large-scale pilots promoted by Cáritas Coimbra is to bring innovation, technology and active participation to people living in the Diocese of Coimbra’s geographical area.
In addition to senior citizens, the ValueCare project also includes formal and informal caregivers and the users’ own families.
The ValueCare project innovates by creating a digital solution of integrated care (social and health) to improve the life quality of older citizens. In this sense, an application is being developed to be installed on tablets and smartphones, where participants share their health and well-being habits, so that a multidisciplinary team from Cáritas Coimbra can then develop an individual care plan for each participant. Throughout the development of the project, this multidisciplinary team (managers, nurses, physical therapists, nutritionists, psychologists, animators, educators, social workers, among others) will also monitor the participants progress.
