Cáritas Coimbra’s PHILIP project invests in Health Literacy among children and adolescents

In September 2022, Cáritas Coimbra is collecting data on Health Literacy of children and adolescents aged 11 to 15 years old, in the framework of the European project PHILIP – Protection of Health by Increasing the Health Literacy of Pupils. This is a project funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Commission, in a partnership between Cáritas Coimbra and five European entities.

It aims to carry out a quantitative study on the Health Literacy level of children and adolescents (11-15 years old) and a qualitative study on good practices and challenges in promoting health literacy for children and young people. The second one will involve stakeholders such as Pediatricians, Educators, School Psychologists, or other health representatives. In this sense, two questionnaires were created by the consortium, one aimed at children and adolescents and the other for stakeholders.

PHILIP aims to increase the Health Literacy levels of young people aged 11 to 15 and to empower Educators through health literacy awareness and education activities. The materials resulting from the project, including a manual for Educators and education modules for children and adolescents, will be available to the public.
