Ethics Committee of the SMARTWORK project led by Cáritas de Coimbra meets for the 2nd time

The project’s Ethics Committee, led by Cáritas Diocesana de Coimbra, met on the 5th of March within the scope of the European SmartWork project (financed by the European Horizon 2020 Program) and following the pre-pilot implemented at the Cáritas Diocesana de Coimbra between 1 October 2020 and 15 January 2021.

The main objectives of the meeting were as follows:

• Follow-up of the project’s ethical tasks, including a brief presentation of the Portuguese pre-pilot, as well as the published ethical articles;

• Discussion on the main ethical issues and procedures regarding pre-pilot activities held at Caritas Coimbra, under a pandemic context;

• Analysis and planning of the main ethical risks and respective mitigation actions in advance for the validation pilots, located in Portugal and Denmark, scheduled for April 2021.

The meeting proposed a first proposal for the Ethical Risks Mitigation Plan that will cover the implementation of the test for the final version of the SmartWork system, an innovative and integrated set of artificial intelligence dedicated to monitoring and improving the well-being and labour sustainability of older employees in an office setting.
