Caritas Coimbra participated in the meeting of the Advisory Board of the VALUECARE project

Last May 14, Cáritas Coimbra participated in the first meeting of the Advisory Board of the VALUECARE project (funded by the Horizon 2020 Programme and coordinated by Erasmus Medical Center – The Netherlands). Sofia Ortet, a member of the Caritas Coimbra’s Innovation Department, participated in the online meeting that was chaired by Mona Khalid, Chair of the Advisory Board. The seven members of the Board – Xinye Fang, Charlotte Haggren, Ester Sarquella, Michael Rigby, Yuping Mao, Elena Curtopassi, Viktor Persic – took part in the meeting as well as several partners from the VALUECARE consortium, bringing together 17 European partners from 8 countries.

This meeting focused on the discussion and planning of the duties and tasks of this Advisory Board, considering the framework, objectives, and new time frame of the VALUECARE project, updated after its extension for 6 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The VALUECARE digital solution aims to support an integrated model of care for older people, in the social and health areas, both in public and private services. The solution is based on a co-creation methodology and will be tested in 2022, in 7 large-scale pilots through Europe: Portugal, Italy, Greece, Spain, Croatia, The Netherlands and Ireland. Caritas Coimbra will be responsible for the implementation of the large-scale pilot in Portugal. This pilot site addresses the risk of social isolation of older people in their homes, an issue that has been aggravated by the contingencies of the Covid-19 pandemic. This pilot intends to involve more than 200 participants within the Diocese of Coimbra and it aims essentially to:

  • Consolidate the local and community ecosystem of actors around these older people;
  • Ensure that no older person is neglected in terms of support in the social and health areas of care;
  • Explore the potential of VALUECARE technology in improving communication between formal and informal caregivers of older adults (in the social and health sectors).
