Cáritas Coimbra presented the COST action Net4Age-Friendly at ASTAHG conference
On December 2nd Carina Dantas (Cáritas Coimbra) participated in the ASTAHG online conference (Alpine Space Transnational Governance of Active and Healthy Ageing) representing SHAFE network and the COST action NET4Age-Friendly. The conference addressed different perspectives about support for older people living in remote areas in times of COVID-19.
Cáritas Coimbra’s intervention focused on the COST Action- NET4Age-Friendly. According to the lead researcher, this action “aims to promote social inclusion, independent living and more active and healthy life for all ages. In this way continuing to expand the work of the SHAFE network, which aims to overcome the fragmentation and various gaps that still exist, at both conceptual leve and innovation pragmatism, in order to tackle the political and research challenges in Europe. The current COVID-19 pandemic will bring social and economic consequences which can worsen the quality of life of the most vulnerable people, and the action NET4Age-Friendly can bring innovative mitigation measures which will be essential to keep these areas a priority in the political agenda”.
The COST Action – NET4Age-Friendly – International Interdisciplinary Network on Smart Healthy Age-friendly Environments, was approved in a proposal led by Cáritas Coimbra, in joint work with AFEdemy (The Netherlands) and a network of researchers from 47 countries (a result of the organizations’ work in the SHAFE network).
The round table in which Carina Dantas participated addressed initiatives for active and healthy ageing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Luana Rotari, Oscar Zanutto and Julia Wadoux from the AGE Platform participated as speakers, amongst others.
Carina Dantas finalized the discussion referring that it is essential “firstly, to guarantee digital access, and after, guarantee the literacy trio: digital, health and data”.
This event was organised by the Slovenian National Institute of Public Health, as a partner for the project “The Alpine Space”, a transnational project committed to active and healthy ageing, co-funded by the European Union, through the program Interreg Alpine Space. This conference brought together stakeholders from different areas which provided information about design, implementation, and evaluation of public policies in remote areas, where older people are experiencing unprecedented challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference aimed to present good practice experiences already promoted in the last few months to face this health and social crisis.
