Cáritas Coimbra discusses a more inclusive Digital Future

On November 19th, Cáritas Coimbra attended a discussion table held in the framework of the regional workshop “Towards a more inclusive Digital Future: challenges and opportunities”. The meeting, promoted by EAPN Portugal in partnership with IEFP, took place at CEARTE’s premises in Coimbra.

The main objective of this initiative was to promote reflection and broad debate about the impact of digitization on the future of work in Portugal and to stimulate the articulation and production of contributions between different actors: public employment services technicians, professional integration offices (GIP); Qualifica Centers and other vocational training centers; representatives of local businesses as well as business and entrepreneurial support associations in the region; social economy organizations (OES) and researchers. For this purpose, it was used the world cafe method and three tables were composed with the various participants, in order to share and discuss different perspectives around the themes and concrete issues raised in the workshop.

As OES, Cáritas Coimbra has voiced good practices and concerns associated with the inclusive Digital Future. The organization has a significant track record in technology-based projects and enhancement of older people or those in social exclusion. An example of this is the SmartWork project, which Sofia Ortet, from the Innovation Department, presented and disseminated at the meeting, emphasizing its potential facilitator of better inclusion, quality and well-being of older workers in the workplace.

SmartWork is a project co-financed under the H2020 program to promote healthier working environments for 55+ citizens, which provides for a wide range of concerted activities with national and international initiatives.

The event was part of a cycle of regional workshops, promoted by EAPN Portugal, with the purpose of gathering the plural perspective of the different actors and territories, culminating in the elaboration of recommendations that will be presented at a Conference on the theme, on December 10th, at Porto, Portugal.
